The Social Dilemma

Netflix’s new “must-see” documentary The Social Dilemma explores the hazards of social networking. It highlights that social media companies take advantage of our desire for human interaction to advertise products and promote addiction to their platforms.

An important message of the film is that we should be mindful about what we post online, as our electronic footprint is near impossible to erase. Critically thinking about the information that you read online is also an important habit to develop, as “fake news” and biased reporting spreads fast.

Despite the doomsday narrative presented in the film, we should not forget that social media is a tool that can used for good: to foster connections, communication, awareness and social change.
